Svante Sjöblom is ready to release his third full length album ”Telling Lies.” Just like its predecessor ”Before It Breaks” the album was recorded in Svante´s workshop on the countryside in the very south of Sweden. The album was recorded and produced by Magnus Nörrenberg and Svante Sjöblom.

It took Svante 14 years to record the follow up to his debut album from 2008. It only took a year for him to write and record “Telling Lies”. A creative thaw initiated by equal parts lust and necessity to make his own music; to express himself in words and music.

After many years on the road as a hardworking blues musician, Sjöblom felt the need to expand the musical landscape and get rid of the limitations of the blues format. The Blues is still the foundation, but the music is now allowed to move in all possible directions. A seamless and soulful mix of blues, ballads, country, gospel, soul and jazz.

There’s a similar development in the lyrics. Instead of repeating or recycling
classic blues lines and phrases, Svante has found his own voice. His own way of expressing his thoughts, feelings, and concerns. A newfound sobriety has made him re-evaluate his ways of thinking and acting, his way of living. A difficult but in the end very rewarding process.

”Telling Lies” is way more than a collection of 10 good songs. It’s an album that sneaks up on you, demands you attention and, eventually, stays in you heart and soul. For a long, long time.

Telling Lies (2023)

Before It Breaks (2022)

Svante Sjöblom has been a major player on the Scandinavian blues/folk scene for 15 years. His first album was released in 2008 and »Before It Breaks« is a welcome follow up.

Yes, it's been 14 long years since his first and so far only solo album. But Svante Sjöblom has used the years well, fine tuning his craft and developing from a very skillful, teenage guitar wizard into a soulful, highly accomplished Musician. All while playing live at blues- and folk-clubs and festivals all over Scandinavia. Solo, with his own band or with other prominent Scandinavian artists like Sofie Livebrant or Sofia Karlsson (both. of them making guest appearances on »Before It Breaks«).

A few years ago, Svante met the Danish folk trio Twang and they instantly found a almost magical connection. A self titled album was released in 2020 and you could say that »Before It Breaks« is the sister album. Working with Twang opened up a new musical word for Svante. The blues is still the main ingredient, but now infused with folk, soul, gospel and even jazz. Svante took the roots music approach of the Twang cooperation and translated it into the full band setting of »Before It Breaks«. What we hear here is a seamless mix that only can be described as pure and timeless roots music. Much in the same spirit as the classic Ry Cooder albums from the seventies. But while Cooder mainly recorded covers, the songs on »Before It Breaks« are all Svante Sjöblom originals.
