Dansk/amerikan/indiern Oscar Mukherjee och hans vältrimmade band skapar vansinnigt snygg, solskensmättad indie-americana. Influenser från Kurt Vile, Phoebe Bridgers samsas med klassiskt singer/songwriter-hantverk a la John Prine. The Mukherjee Development är baserat i Köpenhamn dit Oscar Mukherjee flyttade i tidiga tonåren.
It's a sunny day in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, somewhere southwest of Hawaii. A log raft emanating the sounds of live-music drifts in a tropical breeze. Enter The Mukherjee Development, the Copenhagen-based band specialized in playing "Nordic Sunshine Music". Yes - the term is admittedly self-coined, as the sun rarely ever shines in Denmark, but wouldn't you also bend the truth a bit in pursuit of your craft? Imagine the musical equivalent of Kurt Vile, Phoebe Bridgers, and John Prine throwing a dinner party with a menu of Danish smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches), Indian vindaloo, and American key-lime pie.
Danish/American/Indian Oscar Mukherjee's songs deal with identity, devotion, and love in the multi-cultural 21st century. Born to Danish/Indian parents, he spent his formative years in Silicon Valley steeped in the nostalgic sounds of the Californian folk-rock boom. With his prodigious command of the American songwriter tradition in tow, Oscar Mukherjee relocated to Copenhagen in his early teens, where his talent quickly turned heads in the Danish music scene. The release of his first two EP's garnered him a Danish Music Award nomination, national airplay (Danish Radio P4), and saw him perform at Folk Alliance International (New Orleans) and Americana Fest UK (London) with the Texas-based organization The House of Songs in 2020.
Surrounded by a band to match, The Mukherjee Development's rhythm section boasts some of Denmark's finest musicians. It's time to heat up your backyard pool – The Mukherjee Development's debut album will shortly be drifting through the airways near you.
