Carson McHone

Carson McHone från Austin, Texas, har gått i den hårda skolan. Redan som tonåring spelade hon oändligt långa kvällar på barer och danshak och hon lärda sig hantera en publik som kunde vara lika uppskattande som skoningslös. Då var det hardcore honky tonk country som gällde, men på senare år och med nya plattan "Carousel" har McHone tagit sin musik i en delvis annan riktning. Country-basen finns kvar, men med en mörkare, mognare inriktning där låtarna och texterna blivit allt viktigare. "Carousel" har hyllats stort i USA och i januari 2019 släpps plattan i Europa på prestigelabeln Loose.

McHone skivdebuterade 2015 med plattan "Goodluck Man" ,som fick ett strålande mottagande lokalt, vilket ledde till turnéer utanför Texas och spelningar med artister som Shakey Graves, Gary Clark, Jr. och Joe Pug. Hon mötte en ny publik och utvecklades ytterligare som artist.

"There was a time when I wanted to champion traditional country", berättar McHone, "mostly because I wasn't hearing it in what was being called ‘country'. I think a lot of roots influenced artists feel the need to defend tradition in this way. Today though, I want to do more with the form, push myself past where I understand it to be".

Nya "Carousel" speglar den utvecklingen och McHone har vuxit som låtskrivare på ett alldeles remarkabelt sätt. En viktig roll i den processen har Nashville-baserade producenten Mike McCarthy spelat. McCarthy har tidigare jobbat med Spoon, Patty Griffin och Heartless Bastards och han blev det perfekta bollplanket för Carson McHone.
